Jack Ma’s View About His Wealth

In the chat with Jerry Yang, one of the co-founders of Yahoo, Jack Ma spoke about his vision for his business, his philosophy about life and dreams. I listened in admiration especially when I found out his mission when he started Alibaba and his subsequent struggles. His mission is to help small businesses do business better using the internet and for the first 3 years of Alibaba, they earned $0 in revenue but preserved because of all the thanks from his customers.

The World’s 99 Greatest Investors: The Secret of Success

I searched for the book “The World’s 99 Greatest Investors: The Secret of Success” by Magnus Angenfelt while researching more about Dr Niwes Hemvachiravarakorn who I have heard him spoke at Value Investing Summit 2016.

This is an extraordinary book as it has never been that easy to learn from the best investors. Magnus saved you from the numerous hours that you would have needed to research and study all these investment greats. Honestly, many are names that I have not heard of before. For a newbie investor, I have only heard of the ultra-famous investors like Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffet, George Soros, Jim Rogers etc. But there are many other outstanding investors whom we can all learn from, and for many newbies, I believe that you would not have known and be able to learn about all these investment greats on your own.

Magnus has done all the hard work, research and interviewed most of those investors and compiled the insights shared by the best investors in the world. These are investors who outperformed the market on average of 12 percentage points a year for 25 years. You get the gist of each of their investment philosophy in 2 to 3 pages. For beginner investors who like to learn from the best with the highest ROI of your time and money, grab the book now.

Third Takeaway from Value Investing Summit 2016: There is no mantra in investing

It seems that the gurus have found winning strategies that constantly give them success in their investments. But as one of the speakers at VIS 2016 reminded us, “There is no right strategy for everyone. There is no mantra. You need to be true to yourself.”

Second Takeaway from Value Investing Summit 2016: Invest in your circle of competence

In my first takeaway from VIS 2016, I wrote about the idea that it’s never too late to start investing or to start anything. I hope for those who have not yet started in their investment journey, it has ignited the motivation in you to begin your journey today. In several seminars that I went to, the speakers always talk about investing in your circle of competence. So, for my second takeaway, I would like to write about this principle of investing only in what you understand.

First Takeaway from VIS 2016: It’s never too late to start investing

There were several takeaways from the Value Investing Summit (VIS) 2016 which I attended on 23 and 24 January. As I am no investment guru, I would not be dispensing investment advice. Instead I would like to share the takeaways from the investment presentations that are also applicable in other areas of life. The first one I would like to share is: “It’s never too late to start.”
