Pen-pineapple-apple-pen: The PPAP viral song

Pen-pineapple-apple-pen? A song with these lyrics? I was puzzled when I first chance upon the acronym PPAP. I thought does it have anything to do with PAP?

The strange phenomenon of the internet. It seems that anything can go viral on the internet. You just can’t guess what would be the next photograph, video or song that will catch people’s attention.

Like “what is the colour of the dress” – is it white and gold or blue and black? Apparently, there is a scientific explanation of why some people see white and gold while others blue and black. Or the current craze of the PPAP earworm-style music video performed by a fictional singer-songwriter Piko-Taro, which is created by Japanese comedian Kosaka Daimaou? Pen-pineapple-apple-pen – that’s a strange combination. Maybe that’s why it’s sung by a fictional character. Anything goes in fiction.

So what would be the next thing that goes viral? No one knows. There are already several versions of the PPAP song online. So, before this fruits-and-pen song die down, I guess we might hear more such versions. Durian-rambutan-apple-mango-apple? So DRAMA.

I guess that’s the beauty (or someone might say curse) of the internet?
