Writing has Changed the World

Most of my career has been involved in the area of editing or writing. Although I write personally either in diaries or my blog and has published a travelogue, I can’t profess a deep love for writing. Maybe it’s because I don’t think I do it particularly well now, and am still in the process of sharpening my writing skills. So, an article about how writing changed the world aroused my curiosity.

It seemed that history begins after humans learn to write. Without the written world, it would not be possible for us to know what has happened centuries ago. Words of mouth would be lost sooner or later, and as messages are being passed on through verbal communications, some phrases or the original meaning might have been lost during the process.

Is that why most people have dreams about publishing something – it is so that their legacy would live on in the form of a record and that they too would become history one day?
